DMCS Spiritus Award Dinner – Thursday, December 5th, 2013

We are holding the first “Spiritus Award Dinner” at the Hatheway Pavilion at Lily Lake on Thursday, December 5th, 2013, with a cocktail hour beginning at 6:00pm, followed by dinner at 7:00pm. We will be recognizing an individual who, during their life time, has breathed life into our community through comforting and aiding others in their time of need. This year’s recipient will be Mr. John Doyle, Vice-President of Brenan’s Funeral Homes. Throughout the years, John has selflessly volunteered his time to many organizations and through his endeavors has made an exceptional contribution to who we are as a community. Tickets for this event are $65 each and may be purchased through the School (214-5556 or dmcs@bellaliant.net). Each ticket purchased nets a Tax Receipt for $35. Terms of payment are Cash, Cheque, Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. There is also opportunity for businesses to help sponsor this event, with sponsorship levels set at $500, $1000 and $2000 plus. 2013 Spiritus Award Recipient – John Doyle

John was born in Saint John on February 22, 1944, a son of the late G. Arthur and Barbara Patricia (Morris) Doyle.  He married Dorothy Anne (McHugh) at 9 AM one Saturday morning at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; they have two children, S. Barbara Doyle of Saint John and J. Gregory Doyle (Patti) of Rothesay; a grandson, Will Doyle; and two grand-dogs.  John has a brother, Arthur Doyle (Bonnie) of Fredericton and a sister, Priscilla Leger (Frank) of Rothesay; and was predeceased by sisters, Susan Bustin and Gerry Gulliver; and by a brother, David Doyle.

John began his life long career in funeral service in the 1960’s, and is still actively involved in caring for the families of the Saint John area; for him it has never been a ”job”, but a calling:    He has mentored, and continues to mentor many others to that same calling.  He is currently vice-president of Brenan’s Funeral Homes.  A man of deep faith, he is a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and was a former president of the Cathedral Parish Council, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #937.  His service to the community includes being a member of the Kiwanis Club of Saint John, where he has served as President and was the recipient of the Mel Osborne Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Kiwanis.  He also recently received the 2012-2013 Human & Spiritual Value Award in recognition of Consistent Moral Values, Dedication to the Community and the Kiwanis Club of Saint John.  John has served on the Boards of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hospice of Saint John and the Canadian Bible Society and is a present member of Probus Club.  He is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Saint John for Outstanding Community Service.  He was awarded the Canada 125 Award, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Funeral Service Association of Canada Award of Merit.  He is a member and Past President of the New Brunswick Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and was a past Chairman of the Atlantic Provinces Funeral Directors Service Convention.
